The Metropolitan area, also known as Greater London, is the place to start off your London tour, because you might need to see the up-to-the-minute face of London to comprehend its evolution along the years. London City

Make sure to include the West End in your vacation tours while in London. It is there that you’ll come across Mayfair, London s most stylish, privileged and fashionable district that includes the most important retail shopping activity in the United Kingdom, a most remarkable place to live, work and visit there is no doubt about it. Mayfair W1 is set around Oxford Street, Regent Street, Piccadilly and Park Lane, at the very heart of London; and it is beyond doubt a microcosm, a melting pot where people from all over the world gather to enjoy the peacefulness of the eye-catching squares and parks.

And if you’re worrying that while you’re enjoying the fun part of your trip you forgot all about more serious matters such as finding accommodation, then, perhaps I should tell you that whether you just visit London on a vacation or a short trip or hunt for fully serviced apartments in London, you’ll find that there are many short-stay and long-stay apartments, serviced and family apartments for vacation, serviced apartments for corporates and business travellers who want more from their stay in London. Also, the Mayfair London hostels provide apartments for young residents come here either to embark on educational courses or to work, or simply to make friends and decide whether or not to make long term lodging arrangements. And if you are a selective tourist who just wants something else, know that, set in the heart of Mayfair with a prestigious shop front adjacent to the auction house, there is a London brokerage that helps an international clientele with the sale and acquisition of fine London real estate from luxury homes to properties which can still be afforded.

You want to know how you get there? Well, the underground is one way, and as you might have already found out, the first underground line in the world was in London and it opened 1863. Although it was essentially a roofed-in channel at first, The London Underground (The Tube) is still the longest. Another way would be taking the London Double-Decker Bus: hop on, hop off and at the end of just one day you’ll have made a tour of all the most important sights in London. And these of course, are not the only transportation means that will take you around London. You can always take a bus, a tram or a taxi, all in keeping with your mood and holiday budget of course.

You’ve probably started asking yourself about another detail of your vacation, just as important as any other: “where do I eat?”. You should know that once you are here you can buy an easy to use guide that contains descriptions of all the major London restaurants – which I have to say are several hundred, and so, in keeping with what you desire or what your tastes are, you can choose either from the many top restaurants (if you want to celebrate something special), or just pick a restaurant in the area you are to have a quick bite and go with your London tour.

Far and wide there are signs that uncover a London deeply anchored into a historical past and teach you the secret language you need to know so as to negotiate cultural differences. You might need just a few vacation days or a whole life to get to know every little corner in London. Anyway, until you decide, I’ll tell you that London is one of the few capitals where you can still see buildings or historical sights in all styles of English architecture since the 11th century. London Bridge is one of them. It is built over the river Thames in the centre of London, from the City of London to Southwark and it originally was a bridge built near the current site by the Romans in 80 AD, until it was replaced with a stone bridge at the end of the 12th century. A new bridge was built by John Rennie which lasted until 1968, when it was bought by a US oil company, disassembled, and reconstructed as tourist attraction in Arizona in 1971. The current bridge dates from then.

You might go on your tour by visiting The White Tower, Tower of London, which was initially a Norman fortress on the bank of the river Thames to the east of the City of London. The keep, or White Tower, was built about 1078 on the site of British and Roman fortifications and it was a royal residence and the principal state prison was for centuries. Today it is an armoury, and a museum. In 1994 the crown jewels, traditionally kept in a bunker in the tower, were moved to a specially designed showcase, the Jewel House, situated above ground level. Make sure to put the Gothic styled Westminster Abbey or the Tudor St James s Palace on your list. Do no overlook the 17th century St Paul s Cathedral or the Kensington Palace, and when you’re done visiting them do consider sightseeing the 18th century Buckingham Palace, the London residence of the British sovereign. It was bought in 1761 by George III for his wife and later on, in 1825, it was rebuilt for George IV. Queen Victoria was the first sovereign to live there and Queen Elizabeth II is currently living here. This is your chance to see the ceremony of changing the guard which takes place daily when the sovereign is in residence. Only after you have visited all of the above are you ready to pay a visit to the 19th century British Museum (Neo-Classical) which is the largest museum of the UK.

Before ending up your list, know that London has been the centre of English drama since its first theatre was built by James Burbage 1576. A re-creation of the Globe Theatre was opened in Southwark 1996 and you must not leave London without having seen it or the Tate Gallery of Modern Art for that matter.

It is only now that you are ready to take a taxi or the underground to Heathrow, one of the world s busiest airports, only now can you board your flight home and start looking forward to coming back to London.

This is London, a piece of heaven or a bit of hell, and you cannot say you’ve seen it all without having been here!
